Editor’s Pick in Magnetic Resonance in Medicine

We are very proud to share that the paper by Eva S. Peper and colleagues has been selected as an Editor’s Pick in the May 2026 issue of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.

“Pole-to-Pole 3D Radial Trajectory Designs Improve Image Quality and Quantitative Parametric Mapping in the Brain and Heart.”

In this work, Eva and the team developed new 3D radial spiral phyllotaxis trajectory designs aimed at reducing phase inconsistencies in radial MRI. By acquiring nearly opposing spokes from both hemispheres of 3D k-space, the proposed pole-to-pole and continuous phyllotaxis trajectories improved image quality and enhanced the accuracy of quantitative parametric mapping.

The approach was implemented and evaluated at 3T using phase-cycled bSSFP and spoiled gradient-echo sequences. The results showed improved T1/T2 mapping in the brain and better image quality in whole-heart imaging compared with the original phyllotaxis trajectory.

This work highlights how thoughtful k-space trajectory design can directly improve both anatomical image quality and quantitative MRI, with applications in the brain and heart.
